What is the benefit of Professional Engineer (PE) License in Mechanical Engineering? Hi, I have a Ph.D. in Mechanical engineering from an EAC-ABET accredited university. I also have an MS and BS in mechanical engineering. Currently I am working at a company in California as a thermal engineer. I have heard about Professional Engineer (PE) license. I am trying to decide if I need this license or not. I am already working in a company as an engineer in California? Why should I consider getting PE license? What benefit or advantage will it give me? Are there any specific jobs which require PE license in mechanical engineering. I can understand that a person designing a building must have a PE license in civil or structural engineering. What type of job will require a PE license in mechanical engineering? Is it a beneficial thing to have? Thanks a lot
Professional Engineering (PE) license in the construction industry question ? My fiance' will be graduating college in December wih a degree in Architectural Engineering. He would like to earn his Professional Engineering license, and would have to work under a professional engineer for 5 years. The problem is that he wants to go into construction management, and he feels that he won;t be able to find a company that will have what he needs to eanr his P/E so he may have to work in another field for 5 years just to earn it. Is this true? Or are there construction companies (residential or commercial mainly, but industrial if all else fails) that have professional engineers on staff? Especially in the Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC area? Please, serious answers only by those who know what I am talking about. I know how he gets the PE, but was wondering if construction firms would have PE's on staff for him to work under?
Would an engineer make a good accountant, or could an accountant make a good engineer.? I know both fields are unrelated but, if a professional engineer wanted to learn about accounting would he be well suited for it, or if a professional accountant want to learn about engineering would they be good at it. Who would do better at the new career and who better stick to what they know.
Do you know any professional organization about food engineering? I want to search this organization from an ethical aspect to their members, society or business and industry. For ex:NSPE-National Society of Professional Engineers But I want something specific about food engineering. If you find a general engineering organization it is ok too.I am going to prepare a serious project.
How do I become a professional engineer in US? 10 Points I live in NY and I found out that first I need have my graduation diploma approved in order to take the FE Exam. Then after gaining working experience I have to take the PE Exam. The issue is that I don't remeber all the material for the FE Exam since I finished college a very long time ago and I already have years of working experience in my country and in US. (In US about 2-3 years) Is there a way I can take only the PE Exam and not the FE Exam, Maybe by going to a graduate school for an year?? Best Answer 10 Points. Thanks in advance. I am already working for a PE certifies engineer, and I thought the FE was only to allow the students to train. So why do I need the FE? Also is passing the FE a requirements to take the PE Exam?
What does a licensed Professional electrical engineer do? I have a degree in electrical engineering and I am working as a Technical Support in a computer company. Since I don't like dealing with phone callings, I am thinking about to get an EE license and change my career path. So I am wondering what it is like to become a licensed electrical engineer. Do they mostly perform designs in office OR spend a lot of time doing outdoor activities like construction workers? I hope they are not working like construction workers.
How would I go about doing this : scheduling, analysis, design, integration and testing of combat systems and combat system simulation.>>

Does what school you go to matter when looking for a Civil Engineer job? I'm currently in a California Community College and am hoping to transfer soon as a Civil Engineer. Basically, does the college you go to really play that significant a role when looking for a Civil Engineering job? For instance, so far I'm considering between UCI and Cal Poly Pomona for Civil Engineering. And from my understanding, I've heard many good things from Cal Poly Pomona and that it has quite a good Civil Engineering program for the cost. (I'm excluding UCLA because I probably won't get in, but I'll give it a shot) So basically, that boils down to how big of a role does the college you go to have on your Civil Engineering job application. Does a student from Cal Poly Pomona fare as well as a student from the UC system? Obviously, there's other criteria when considering applicants, but I'm still curious as to who's bound to get the job. So far, I'm leaning towards Cal Poly Pomona because of cost for the good things I see from it, but if any experienced Civil Engineer can help me out here, that would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration. P.S. Also, I understand that the goal of a Civil Engineer is to attain a Professional Engineer (PE) license that requires an exam of some sort and job experience. So that's also mainly why I'm asking about which college and whether or not it matters because after all, if you get your PE license, does it really matter what school you come from anymore? Once again, special thanks to those who really took the time to help me with this dilemma. I'm really hoping to devote myself and commit to help our environment for the better and change the world through the hands as a Civil Engineer.
how do I trust somebody with a invention or product upgrade? I have a great idea (i guess) hanging in my mind for a while i about to start a specific drawing design and i have almost all the research i need, now I am going to need a professional engineer to bring it live how do I make sure he wont stole my idea? would your answer apply in different countries?, I know copy rights could be an option but I can CR it without a better product specification.
Can someone look at my report? I've typed a report on civil engineering, but its not complete. Can anyone take a look at what I have so far? Simply put, civil engineers design things. To distinguish civil engineering from other fields though, civil engineers are responsible of the planning, constructing, and managing of infrastructure, which is “the system of public works of a country, state, or region…required for an activity” and meeting several governmental and environmental standards. Because of this, civil engineering projects require experts from multiple fields, which is why civil engineering is made of many sub-disciplines. These include architectural, earthquake, environmental, structural, and geotechnical. Nevertheless, four requirements need to be met before becoming a civil engineer. First, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science needs to be acquired to even begin the process of licensure. Next, an exam called “Fundamentals of Engineering”, which consists of 180 math, physics, and chemistry intensive questions, would have to be taken. At this point, some civil engineers can get a job as a patent attorney. However, for those who wish to be professional engineer, where the main difference is the authority to take legal responsibility of documents, they must undergo an apprenticeship of about four years. Afterwards, the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam will have to be passed based on the decision of a selected committee. Finally, one can be truly considered a civil engineer. However, the job itself as a civil engineer must be examined to get the best overall picture. Civil engineering is not exactly the highest paying career with a salary ranging from $54,520 to $86,260, but being a civil engineer entails certain things that are exclusive to this career. The field has a prospective future and a lower risk of being laid off. The most important positive, though, is the ability to have an immense sense of purpose after successfully completing a project.
Professional engineers-HELP!? This is a science experiment ive been so crazy about lately! i can't get it right!!!! okay. My point here is to see which energy sources produce the highest voltage. im using a 3 volt battery, a dc generator, a voltaic cell[vinegar], and the human body[static] . problems are: can you make a simple generator? i just want something using electromagnetism to light up a lightbulb! and how can i measure the voltage produced by the human body[static]? [also for the body one, is there another way to light up a lightbubl using static?] please, tell me where to place the voltmeter and with specific directions on how to measure everything/ and also tell me personnally what you think of this project.

I want to propose to a TV producer to make a TV documentary about a certain topic (microbial corrosion) but I have no contact details of such a person. On the TV websites I could not find this type of info either. I want to make electronic circuits and sell them...what do I need to do? If I want to sell a product (that I designed) on the Internet (e.g. through my own website), what kinds of qualifications/certifications do I need? Do I need: 1. to be a professional engineer? 2. need CE certification to sell in European countries? Anything else? 3. meet ISO9000? others? 4. Any specific certifications needed for selling in N. America? China? Sorry this might seem broad, but I'm interested in different requirements for different regions. I am new to this stuff, but I don't know where to get information about the legality to sell certain products. If you could point me to some resources and/or answer the above questions, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Am I required to be a US citizen or a legal permanent resident to take the FE and PE exam in Florida? I have a civil engineering degree from a foreign country, and now I'm getting a AS degree in construction management here in US with an F1 visa. I want to take the FE exam this year in October. I checked on the Florida Board of Professional Engineers website for requirements for foreign degrees but it says nothing about being a us citizen or legal resident.[aw c4
How to become a Systems Engineer? I would like to become a systems engineer in the IT industry but i am not sure how to go about this. I've heard about becoming microsoft certified(MCSE) and i've also heard that you need to go to a university and get some sort of IT degree. My question is do i need to do both, or which one would you recommend to become a systems engineer. Also, which universities/ courses would you recommend for becoming an IT professional/Systems Engineer?
Can you name some good employment agencies in the Los Angeles, CA area that focus on computer programmers? I'm not talking about an agency that places IT professionals. I mean an agency that places computer programmer professionals (engineers) who know high-level programming languages. The agency should understand well a programmer's skills. It should be one that is known and respected in the Los Angeles, CA area. The good agencies also provide benefits to the people they place, such as direct deposit, holiday pay, and online timecards. The good agencies might also offer medical benefits, FSAs, 401(k) to those that contract long term. Thanks in advance. I have a friend who really needs help looking for work in this field. He is at an advanced level in his career.
A Confession - Have any other women done the same? Hi there. I'm 26 and currently a working professional (engineer). My confession is that I secretly just want to be a Mom! I don't really care about my job - I only went into engineering for the money and b/c I'm smart. I'm just waiting for the point at which it is the right time to start having babies, and then I feel like that's it, I'm leaving the professional world forever. Ideally I'd like to have a few kids then once they're old enough to be in school, start a daycare. My boyfriend and I have been dating for 2.5 years, we have a house, and he's an engineer to. But we won't be having kids for a few more years, after we're married. I've told him of my crazy ideas and he supports them and thinks it's great that I want to raise our kids. The women in his family are very career-oriented so I'm sure they will have their opinions (they wouldn't say them to my face though). Am I nuts?!? The money in engineering is really good and I worked so hard for my degree!
Engineering major decisions? I'm about to enter college as a freshman next year and I have some questions: 1. Does it matter where you go to as an undergrad for engineering, because I think I'm going to go for my master's in Engineering? I don't know if my particular acceptance would be completely discouraged by the school I went to as an undergrad. (The school I'm going to attend as a freshman isn't the best school, but isn't the worst, CSUN. I'm going to get all A's and learn the most I can with all opportunities intact when attending CSUN, and if I don't like the school I will transfer out after freshman year.) 2. When you commit to major, is that the same as committing to a specific job? I want to work in the space-related engineering industry. My dad was an aerospace engineer, but couldn't even get a job? I was thinking on majoring as an Aerospace engineering, as that would give me the opportunity to be an Astronautical Engineer. Does anyone else know what type of job fields would be open to me as a Mechanical Engineer graduate? If you wouldn't advise the Aerospace field, as you think it's in bad condition, what other options would you consider? 3. Does Engineering involve really complex math, as what is said? I'm in pre-calc right now and I find it extremely easy. How can math be hard if it's all formulas and memorization/recitation? 4. My alternative plan is to double major in Film and Engineering. (Just thought you should know that.) 5. Would Mechanical Engineer be the leader of various sub-groups such as Aerospace Engineering, Astronautical Engineer...? This questions are extremely important to me, because I'm not in direct contact with any professional Engineers I know of at the moment, and I've been having these questions for a long time now. I would be more than happy to add details if you need it to further answer my questions. Thank you so much. Oh, I want to emphasize (I mentioned in question #2) the question if Aerospace Engineering would be a hard field to find a job in, as, I reiterate, my dad couldn't even find a job? And is getting a masters in Engineering preferable? Cowboyweal, why didn't your further pursue any more Graduate Engineering programs? And that helped a lot.
How to get over a relationship? Ok, I have been with this girl for 8 months now, I am totally in love with her, my friends dont see it. I am a professional engineer, I worked hard for 4years to get where I got, I go to grad school to better myself and all what I want from life is a happy relationship leading to marriage. I am not into games or jumping from a person to a person, i just want to find the one i trust to get married and spend my life with. This girl I am with lied to me about stopping going to a club with her friend. She lied to me about dancing with only girls in a club but she did do so with guys. Yet she says she loves me. She got few kids on her own and God knows I treat them just like they are my own. I get so misreable sometimes, and it is affecting my work life, family and everything. I may have a trust issue, but because of the lying she s been lying to me that made me like this. How can i stop this feeling. I remember i was so happy when I was single, never had to worry some1 cheatin on me. help
Professional Mechanical Engineers--can you answer some of my questions? What do you do on a regular day? What experience do you have? What do you find satisfying about your work? Does this career develop and change? Do you often work with a team? What kind of decisions do you have to make? What skills and experience would one need to get an internship? Does this career develop or change? Are there any promotions? When did you realize you wanted to be an engineer? Also, could you provide what company you work with, perhaps your name (if you just want to email it to me, that would be fine) If you're so busy then why are you on here?
Do I really need to go to a traditional college for audio engineering? have been reading a lot on the internet and from what I have read it seems like people who go to a school that last about half a year to a year that only focuses on audio engineering is the best way to go, like people from a standard four year college usually lack real life studio knowledge and some end up going to one of these six month classes just to get experiecne so they are hireable. ---- Also, I have been thinking about going to a thing called Recording Connections in stead of a college. Where I would be an apprentice to a professional engineer untill I got my certificate. And afterwards they would even help me get a starting job in the industry. To me it sounds good, any opinions or info that may help me in either question? Please and thanks
which of these two jobs make more money? I just want to know this question, and i appreciate who ever answers this question who actually know about this stuff. which job makes more money? Working in a petroleum company as a professional Engineer or working in a hospital as a doctor? Thanks !!

What kind of lawyer handles harassment caused by HOA that is ruining my life? I am a retired nurse and have lived my life with Narcolepsy and with medication I was able to graduate from nursing school, keep a home, work as a nurse, be a Mom, daughter and wife, etc. In 2006 I asked the person who managed our condo to lift one stone in my sidewalk that was lifted by the previous management company and it solved the problem of ice forming there. To my amazement the entire sidewalk was replaced. At that time I was annoyed and asked the management person why she would replace a perfect sidewalk when I wanted one stone lifted. Since I asked that question about why she replaced my sidewalk, I have been harassed by the HOA and management company and I have gotten fake fines, no answers to my emails, many things that need to be addressed are not. We are not able to call our board members so I cannot seem to get anything solved since the mgm. person and her husband who owns the company will not reply to my emails. . I also have a back area to my condo and that area is covered with brown dirt, green moss and a few strands of grass. My HOA and management company refuse to fix my back yard even though I pay my maintenance fee on time monthly. I decided it wasn't worth the misery to live here and I bought a home in Sept. 2008. The person who wanted to buy my condo changed their mind when they saw the condition of the back area of my condo as it was truly a mess and I do not blame them. I am ready to list my property with a real estate agent but before I got a chance to list it, the HOA and mgm. person decided to change my roof which had a 40 year guarantee and was at that time 21 years old and still under guarantee. I was forced to get 7 new skylights that turned out to be the cheapest ones made by Velux. The mgm. person would never inform us of the skylights that were going to replace our upscale skylights. I fought the replacement of the skylights but the lawyer for the Enclave wrote a letter to Con. Affairs saying that the professional engineer said the skylights had to be replaced. I thought the decision was wrong but who I am to go against an engineer as I have no training and only common sense. . The Velux $225 retail skylights replaced upscale skylights that today have to be custom made. I refused to pay for the skylights because they are not equal to the value of the ones removed and they actually turned out to be defective with condensation between the glass. Before the new skylights were completely finished, two leaked and ruined my living room furniture & bedroom custom made bedspread; but the lawyer for the condo sent me a letter saying I was fabricating the damage when no one came to look at my furniture and bedspread. The new skylights have lowered the price of my condo as it is no longer worth the money it was worth with the upscale skylights. Many interested buyers want the original condos with the upscale skylights, solid wood doors, brass hinges, etc. No other person living here with the original skylights all four condo owners had to replace are being forced to replace theirs possibly because of all the information I gave the HOA about how good they were as I bought my condo from the builder and was informed of all of these upgrades. The so called professional engineer had a degree in Zoology. At this point right now, I own another home and this condo as I had a buyer for my condo who won't buy it now because of the condition of the grounds. I am paying taxes and upkeep on two homes. I was informed by the twp. engneer and a building inspector that my neighbor used when she moved next door that there is a drainage problem that might even effect the slab under my condo. . The worse is that my Narcolepsy which was treated perfectly with medication is greatly affected by stress and I am no longer able to do anything I once enjoyed doing. I use to volunteer for Hospice, socialize with friends, go to plays, out to dinner, keep up my condo and even had a beautiful garden. With the stress I have to live with right now, I am having a hard time getting out of bed and taking a shower as I am so very tired all the time. Narcolepsy can't handle stress and the medication doesn't work with great deals of stress. . The management person has been telling contractors not to go near me or my daughter as we might file a sexual harassment suit against them and this is absolutely untrue. About 5 years ago, one of the presidents of the HOA made a comment to my daughter that if she went out for a 2 drink minimum he would fix our property. My daughter made a comment that it was sexual harassment but that is all. The mgmt. person is telling contractors who tell her that something has to be fixed on our condo to stay away from us as we may file a sexual harassment suit against them. Honestly, the smart ones do not believe her but still they cannot repair anything without the management p
i got an assignment to interview three engineers.? it is about interviewing three professional engineers concerning the amount and kinds of writing they do on the job. 1.How much of your time is spent writing each day? 2.is the amount of work you do related to your discipline? 3. to how long you have been in your company? 4. in what ways do you feel that your writing skills have helped (or hindered)you in your career so far? 5. do you get any help with your writing from secretaries, peers or technical writers? 6. what is the attitude of your superiors towards clear writing?
Was I wrong? People seem so surprised and keep nagging me with why did I do this??? I am almost a senior in college, but I decided that I did not like the course of study I had chosen - so I am essentially starting all over again getting a BS Civil Engineering and will not graduate until May 2011. I KNOW that this is something I love to do and it is a great career. Why are people so nagging about me switching from my decision to go to law school? I just realized I would not like it. I will be 24 when I graduate with my BSCE and plan on getting my MBA too after a couple of years of experience. I think being a Professional Engineer with a MBA is a great combination.
im 17 and my mom will pass away soon most likey...and my dad is buggin the crap out of me..*read details*? im 17, my mom will most likey pass away in a matter of days as she is already in a coma that has lasted for the last 5 days becuase she has end stage liver cancer. but anyways, for those of you who have had a parent die, what did the other parent do? my dad has been bugging me and saying "come down lets watch tv or somethign" and he calls me from downstairs and says "hey wut r u doing wana do somethign?".... i mean wtf im in high school and im have a shit load of hw that im working on, and plus i want to play some xbox too once in a while! i mean cmon i want my normal life back, its bad enough that i have my mom on hospice...what should i do? ignore him? lol...i dotn want to ignore him he is my dad. what did ur parent do? is my dad going to be lonely like this forever now? he cannot get married he is 65 and old...and rich...so a stepmom would only want money...so eff that and besides no one would ever replace my mom...and he doesnt' want to marry. so...what do i do? i cant take care of my dad like a baby, im freakin about to go to college and study engineering, thats hard stuff! i cant live liek this having my dad gnaw on my back all the time...but at the same time i want him to have a social life with friends and family...but the problem is he doesn't really have that many friends. my dad had a job which required being rude to people...and now the unfortunate part is he needs people and he doesn't have that many good friends that live nearby...so is he like my problem forever now or wut? i dont want to say he is my "problem", i mean he is my dad and i love him...but im getting destoryed here under the grieving of my mother, my dad gnawing on my back, taking care of my self as a high school kid, taking care of my little sis....i mean WTF somethign has got to change. and my dad doesn't have a job b/c he is too old, he falls asleep at work and gets fired...he is a professional engineer, very good, but is simply too old so he is going to be at home 24/7...now that scares me too. i dont want him to go into depression from no wife, faimly, and being home doing nothign all day... what can i do? what do u suggest he does? what do u suggest we do? anythign? ideas? experiences? tell ur stories if this has happened to u or any of ur friends. or if you are a parent at the moment with a lost spouse...how do u live on? what do u do? SORRY if i offend anyone but dont answer if u r offended, i just hate to ask this question, but i think i need to. THANKS
Are young women intimidated and/or turned off by successful young men? This might be an odd question but this is something that has bothered me for quite some time. I have gone on a few dates with women and typically it seems to go well until we get to the part where we discuss our current career and future goals. I am 23 and I just mention I work as a mechanical engineer and plan on work towards an MBA and professional engineering license. It seems from there she loses all interest. I am not cocky or arrogant about it. I guess I just want honest opinions, should I just not mention what I do or if the question does come up "dumb it down" (but I know sooner or later they would find out)? Ladies do you feel intimidated by success or could you care less? Please only women 18 or older answer since I know nobody in high school would care about a guys career. Best/logical answer gets 10 pts.
Study, Work, and Live in Australia - Perth or Melbourne? I have the option of studying in Melbourne and Perth. I've seen Melbourne back in February 2009. Beautiful city. Its large with many suburbs. Without the trams and underground shopping malls, the city would be overcrowded. I got friends in Melbourne so that is why I consider studying and living there. Besides, Uni of Melbourne is one of the best. But some people suggest I go to Perth. I haven't seen Perth and don't know anyone there. But I have visited Geelong once at night. It was quite and simply beautiful. Empty roads, couples walking, few restaurants with happy faces, very peaceful. I don't get drunk, don't want to attend parties every night all night long. Just want to be in a quite, peaceful city, where I can make friends, study, work, and live. Please tell me about Perth? How are the people? Do they welcome Asian (Afghan) expatriates or do they mock them? Is snobbery common in Perth or do they become friends quickly with everyone? Is it generally safe to live in Perth? Is Perth quite and peaceful like Geelong? Are there many Asian expatriates in Perth? Is it relatively easy to become friends with Perthians? btw.. I want to leave Dubai and go to Uni of Western Australia to do Postgrad in engineering. So, I am not just a refugee seeking asylum. I am going there to study and work as a professional engineer and maybe don't have to return to the deserts of Middle East again where only camels and people with camel brains live!
what do I do now? I am a stay at home mom of four boys. My hubby is a professional engineer. I feel like he has it in his head that he is so much better than me. He complains about what I buy at the grocery and the type of food I cook. Recently I needed help on burning some things to a cd so that it would run on a computer with an old windows setup. He wouldn't help me with it (he is a computer guru). I had to tell people when they asked, "why didn't ___ look at it?", that he wouldn't help me - his wife. When we were on vacation I came down with a really bad cold; ran a fever, hacking cough, lost my voice, the works. He didn't ask once if I was okay or if I needed anything. What he did do is ask was why I was acting so b****y when things got hectic. Last night I tried to talk to him about how I felt and he shooshed me. He was talking to his mom on the phone. How do I get through his thick skull that I need a partner that puts me at the top of his priority list?
Adjustment of status via Marriage denied/I-20? My adjustment of status via marriage was denied. My marriage was falling apart right after the green card interview happened :( especially after I got laid off, my wife doesnt want to deal with me anymore (she is the U.S. citizen). I got a notice saying I-485 was denied although it says it was pending online!! anyways, I got accepted for a masters degree in a local school way before any of that happened. Now, can you please advise me whether I could go to the International Center of my school and get an I-20, then go back to my home country and get an F-1 Visa? Note that I am going to divorce my wife, so I am not doing this to bypass any laws or regulations, I am a professional engineer and to get an M.S. or MBA is important to get promoted especially in my field. Would you please help? I entered this marriage with good faith and i am so sorry that all she cared about is me taking care of her bills ;/. To have an M.S. is important also to get an H1B. happy holidays P.S. I came as an F-1 and always been legal and never over stayed any visa or have any criminal records
No Sex, No Love, No help, very little conversation: if this was your future, would YOU want to get married? If this was your life, would you want to get married to any woman? Or would you just ask yourself “What’s the point” ? (that’s what I always ask myself.) I’m a 46 year old gentleman, a professional engineer, and I go out on dates with women for some interesting conversations about the world and about life in general. I understand that at my age sex-life is totally finished so I never bring that stuff up, and instead I am always nice and polite and talk about other things, trying to be funny and humorous and always being happy with a smile on my face, the 42 - 49 year old women that I am going out with are totally angry, grumpy, and so very insulting to me. I have been asked these questions by my female dates, usually while we are eating a nice dinner at an expensive restaurant : - You know you will never get any sex at your age, so why do you want to date me? - Why do you even think that any woman would ever want you for a husband? - I hope you understand that if I was to get married then my money is mine, and my husband’s money is “ours”? - Why do you talk so much , I don’t like that in a man, men should be silent, don’t you agree? - Don’t you agree that all men should die? - I have children and I demand in a marriage that all of your money goes to raising them so that I don‘t have to use my own money, do you have any problems with that? - I hate sex and I want to get a hysterectomy so I never have to be abused by men ever again, are your disturbed by my views? - I want a man who has reached a point of success in his life, I hope you are successful, are you? And please do not expect me to ever pay for anything, ever! And talk like that has gone on and on and on and I really love to come home to my empty house to my cat who really does love me !!!! I just don’t feel safe around women anymore, they seem to only be out for blood (my wallet). So if this was the experiences that you faced with women in your dates, would you want to get married to a woman? ; no chance of love or love-making EVER, always to have to pay for ALL of the bills while she used her own money for God-knows-what. ??? I live in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I have dated women from the Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and other local areas, including as far away as Toronto and Mississauga too. I use "Plentyoffish.com" dating site, as well as LavaLife too. It has been totally a terrible experience for me, I think I will need therapy after all of it !! I met a homeless man waiting at a light, with a sign saying that he will work for food. After a really horrible date I felt like doing something nice for someone, so I GAVE him $500 in cash and advised him never to ever get married.
If spouse visa (Australia) cancelled is it possible to stay in Australia until to get any other valid visa? I am migrating to Australia at the startof this year under spouse visa(309). But now I am frustrated about my personal life and and thinking to devorce my wife(still not apply) . But the Visa is a provisional resident visa and permanent resident visa will only approved after two years living together. If I am informed my current situation to the immigration department do they allow to stay in Australia until I get the proper visa? Because I am a professional engineer working here on fulltime. My job is in the list of occupation in demand. so it is possble to me to get the skilled visa or employer sponsor visa. But i am not sure whther they alllow me to stay here until I get the proper visa.
Bipolar girlfriend. Please help!!? First, thank you for reading. I have a bipolar girlfriend and we've been together for about 3 months. I want to know what hurts her emotion and what I should do when she is in bad mood. I'm 24 and she's 25. She is very lovely and she tries to understand me, however, her emotion changes frequently. She told me that she was diagnosed as bipolar and I was really surprised but at the same time, I was glad that she told me the truth. I could possibly leave her, but I don't want to. Once she seemed hopeless and told me that I'm the last guy on the planet. I can't leave her like that. So, I decided, I want to be part of it. I'll start working in May as professional engineer, so financially I can take care of her. She works now, but she quitted last job and also she has bad credit. Maybe this is the result of bipolar based on information I've collected. I want to leave stress out of her as much. Does bipolar cause her to cheat on me? That's only thing I care for now.
Engineers: Have you noticed this about our profession? I'm referring to Mechanical or Electrical engineers, in a corporate environment , as opposed to computer programmers and as opposed to licensed Professional Engineers who are in construction. Anyways, every job i've had is depressing, because they basically tell us that our job is to cut costs and little else. My last job required all engineers on their staff to cut costs on existing products by 200,000 dollars. We don't get a bonus for doing this, or a percentage of this cut. It all goes to the company's bottom line and we get nothing. And it's part of our job description, so if we don't do it, we can get fired. No wonder the chinese are taking over everything. While the U.S. pays its engineers to cut costs rather than to innovate, the chinese are free to pay their engineers slave wages to do real engineering (they still suck at it, but we have plenty of traitors running to china every day to train them, so they'll catch on soon enough). What careers exist for a fed-up engineer who wants to actually get paid to create, not destroy.??? hey warren - It's not my job to cut costs. It's my job to put to market on a razor thin budget and impossible timeline products that the sales team sold. If the company thinks that we need to reduce the costs of existing products by outsoursing every single component to china, they can pay a 1st year engineer to do that. My time is better spent on keeping the company growing, not fcking around with screws that cost .012 cents vs. 0.011 cents. Catch my drift?
About the UC application? when i am putting down what job my father has i am going to put a project engineer. i just want to know if i should put professional or techincal for the category. the problem is that for professional it includes engineer, but my father is not a professional engineer because for the one he is u dont need to have a license. and he does some of the things a technical would do.
Civil Engineering: Cal State Northridge vs Cal State LA? I'm transferring from a community college and thank goodness, recently got accepted into both schools. I'm actually still waiting on Cal Poly Pomona, but from the looks of things, Cal Poly Pomona is going to be hard to get in to, so forget about that for now. Referring back to the question then, between the two schools of CSUN and CSULA, (1) which school has a stronger program? Please share about any stories about student organized programs geared towards civil engineering, the overall academic environment and style of teaching, and any other stories that support the respective school. Also, as far as Civil Engineering is concerned, I heard that it doesn't really matter where you graduate from since everyone's aiming for the Professional Engineer (P.E.) license anyway. Nonetheless, I just wanted to compare these two schools' civil engineering departments and their connections. So basically, (2) which school has a more reputable name when finding a job? Are there any strong connections that either school has with specific companies? Talk about the career opportunities attached with each school. I know these two schools aren't the best in the world, but I would really appreciate it if you could share anything you've heard of. All comments, experiences, and suggestions are definitely welcome, so please do share. Thank you so much for your time!
Are there any civil engineering (or related) companies hiring in the Boston, MA area? I graduated in August 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering Technology. Since then, I have submitted 96 resumes. I have submitted resumes to private companies as well as municipalities. I have only heard back from about half of these companies with responses stating that due to the economy they are not looking to hire. I am beginning to get discouraged. I worked so hard to get my degree and it is my dream to become a Professional Engineer someday. Any suggestions are sincerely appreciated.
Canadian marrying a US citizen..? So, I'm a professional engineer, working in the US under NAFTA (TN visa) for the past 9 years. I met a lady and we're talking about marriage. what would be the best and timely action plan to do get married and have the paperwork done?
Japanese Immigration? Hey. I live in the UK and I'm a professional engineer with a Systems Engineering MEng and 3 years relevant job experience. How do I go about getting a job in Japan. US Navy CEC motivational statement. Would like some feedback.? I'm applying to the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps to become an officer: I strongly believe that as I decide where to take my first step in my career as an engineer, the Naval CEC Officer program looks to be a perfect fit. I know that by joining, I will be in the company of highly motivated, highly skilled individuals, creating the kind of community in which I can thrive. In this position I have the opportunity to gain unparalleled management and professional engineering experience that will prove more than useful as I advance my career. Engineering is an admirable career choice, add to that the respect and reverence that comes with being a Naval Officer, and you’re looking at a symbol of both patriotism and progress. I chose to study engineering for the opportunity to enter a rigorous curriculum where I know that I will be challenged, and the broad scope of the mechanical engineering curriculum means that I can pursue a range of career paths, from highly technical design work analyzing thermal systems, to overseeing the construction of a bridge. My most recent working experience was with a very ambitious project to produce a commercial satellite led by experienced engineers and enthusiastic students. This involved the challenge of guiding new team members to their place in the project while also having to humbly seek superiors for my own guidance. The ability to lead in tandem with the willingness to learn from sources of experience is a combination that will prove vital to my role as an officer. I would be honored to bring my positive attitude, energy, and determination to the most ambitious of Navy projects, knowing that I will have the advanced training and camaraderie necessary to accomplish the task. I hope that I have been able to make clear my motivation for my commitment to this program, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve and lead as a Naval Officer. So what do you think? Personally, I'm afraid I don't talk enough about what I can do for the them. I'm putting it out there because I just don't think it's quite good enough, but I want some specifics. Go ahead and be as brutal as you like, I can take it!

I might go back to college to get a 2nd degree. Which would be the best 4 year degree to ensure a job? I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics this past December with really good grades. I entered the Master of Science in Economics program and I am currently in the first semester of the program. I am quickly finding that there aren't that many positions out there that will take Economics majors. If they are, then they are the typical crappy career fair jobs you see every year. I am putting a lot of thinking into this, but I am considering going back to school to get another, more viable 4 year degree. One of those degrees you get and know which profession you're going into like a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I am contemplating going back to get a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and would be done by the time I am 26 (complete the program by Fall 2013) and hopefully could get my Professional Engineer license by 30. Is this a good idea? I already have all of the math out of the way for the engineering major. I have taken Calc 1-3 and Differential Equations. The only problem is that the program is set up in such a way that it takes 3-4 years to complete regardless. What do you think about going back to get a second degree?
How to become chairman of Microsoft or IBM ? Low white blood cells? I recently went to the doctor for a routine physical. My results came back with a low white blood cell count, 3.5 (the lab says normal results are between 3.8 - 10.5). So I assuming is low but not extremely low. I haven't been sick really, just the normal colds every now and then. I have been tired, but I assumed it is because I'm a full time mom to a 1 year old and a professional engineer. I went back this morning to get the tests run again....should I be concerned? I'm getting really anxious about this...oh and I do have very HIGH ANXIETY. THanks in advance.
canada - nova scotia building codes for roof trusses? just looking at starting spring contruction of a small storey and a half with approx 1200 ft sq and a 12:12 pitch on a 30 X 30 footprint. Im on a limited budget and doing all the work myself. I built the home i live in now back about 12 years ago. Thing is I have been hearing rumour that I will need to hire a professional engineer to design / construct my trusses. this sounds out of my league for cost. Any one out there know if it is mandatory or if there are any loopholes if it is?

How much should I ask to tutor group of kids in SAT prep school? I'm very interested taking part time (2hrs/day-2 days/week) tutoring position here in LA area at SAT prep academy. They will provide all the materials (books, paper, etc.) and classroom. I'll be teaching SAT math to group of highschool kids (9-10). Currently, I'm working as a licensed professional engineer (10+ years or experiences) with many years of teaching/training experiences to other staffs but not to highschool math students. However, I dont think it's too much of troble to teach highschool math. Also, I do know the academy charges each students about 150-200/months. Given the condition, how much do you think I should ask per hour? For additional information, the academy is about 10 miles away from my residence and I have to be there twice a week. TIA

Essay grammar corrent.please help me? Hello, I am from Taiwan, I wrote an essay about Apple's macket. Please help me in my article grammar. This part we will talk about Apple’s Market. Marketing is about what kind of product is suitable for what kind of people. So every production has its won marketing. When the producer designs the capability of the product, they may direct the way to the marketing they want to sell. For example, some are suitable for professional engineers, the other are suitable for business and the other suitable for commonalty. Such like Mac is a kind of operating system of our company it is suitable for the one who have to control many different windows at the same time. For example, a contract researcher is searching for some information. It is more easily for them to control all the windows so Mac could catch the contract researcher tribe. Now, there are so many kind of mp3 at the marketing why iPod could be the top in the marketing. iPod has a special interface if you want change the song to the next one or the former and control the volume louder or small, you just have to use your first finger. Put your first finger on the circle in the middle of the iPod, and draw a circle. It’s so easy for anyone to use it. And iPod also is subdivided into “iPod classic which has a big storage gives your music and video room to move (http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/features.html)”, iPod shuffle, iPod nano, etc.... So consumers could choose their iPod depend on their requirement. As result iPod could catch all kinds of consumers in this product.
I want to open a business similar to my boss, What are the Legal Ramifications? I work for a Licensed Professional Civil Engineer, who is paying me about a third of my market value. I am an unlicensed environmental engineer. My expertise has allowed my boss to add the word "Environmental" to his business logo. He is limited in experience in what I do. Much of what I do, does not require an engineers license. I want to break away from my boss and start my own business. I just cannot do it, without continuing to work with him at the same time (moonlighting). I would do this legitimately. I would not work during his hours, but he is business savvy and I am afraid of legal problems. (Conflict of interest) Does anyone have an idea what the legal ramifications might be, if he were to discover that I was running my own business, while working for him? I just need advice, this question has been burning in my mind for over a year.
WHY is Engineering NOT regarded as a profession like Medicine or Law?? Engineering is not regarded as a profession like medicine or law for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons include: •the number of different professional engineering societies, •the fact that engineering societies are not a powerful as the AMA and the ABA, •that both law and medicine require licenses granted by the state in order to practice, •that engineering doesn’t have the social stature that law and medicine have (a fact that is reflected in the lower pay that engineers receive as compared to that of lawyers and doctors). Despite these differences, on balance, engineering is still clearly a profession, albeit one that is not as mature as medicine and law and that should be striving. I would LOVE to know what people think about this!! "A 1998 poll indicated 61% of adults felt "not very well" or "not at all well" informed about engineering." http://www.discoverengineering.org/aboutengineers.asp I am an engineer myself doing research on the standards of professions in society. It has been proven that society holds medicine and law on a higher pedestal than engineering. I am interested in knowing why.

Can people find out something about me just having my IP or e-mail address? I'm curious, can people find out something about me, just having my personal computer IP or e-mail address? I have registered in various websites and have different nicknames, which my friends don't know at all. My e-mail is hiden in most of them, but they know my official email and IP. If they were professional IT engineers can they find out me somehow? And how? Is there any programs to do it? Well I want to ask you - can they find out what websites I'm registered and visiting? And what am I writing there if my email is hidden and they know my email and IP only?

Possible to get Professional Engineer license with a foreign degree? My fiancee has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. Is it likely that she could get the PE (Professional Engineer) license by taking the standard tests, or would she be expected to start all over again by attending an American university School of Engineering? It would suck for her to have to begin all over again as a freshman when she already has the degree and several years' experience. Thanks!

Hi i am a professional engineer in civil/ construction industry.? hi, I am a civil engineer. Looking for a job urgently i have around 25 years of experience. I have applied for more than 100 vacancy but haven't received a single interview call so far. I have tried all recruiting agencies, Newspaper and job websites( literally all of them). What is the average cost of professional liability insurance for a civil engineer.? I am working on a engineering design project and we need to estimate the cost to run our fake company for a month with 5 engineers. One of our items is liability insurance. About how much would it cost on a yearly or monthly basis to insure a small engineering firm with 5 civil engineers. Obviously I tried googling it first. There is no info on it, that is why I am here.
Do you think its worth getting a Professional Engineering Certificate? Do you think its worth if for software engineers to obtain a P.E. or professional Engineer. Since most Software Engineers are actually math and computer science grads, most did not graduate from an ABET accredited program. Should they still strive to get this standard certificate even though it applies more towards Mechanical, Civil, and Environmental Engineering? Good answer so far. Software is a different field and should be set different, but because of savings with embedded systems and emulated hardware, software is here to stay. Software Engineer is a real thing and it should be, but the title is thrown around to people who shouldn't qualify (like people who make GUI's or just code against databases). But for the embedded guys, we have to know as much about EE as the EE guys do software. I do like doublewide's answer so far though.
What are the most presentable and professional colors for a software engineer portfolio/website? My goal is to make a memorable website that will cleanly attract potential employers and get their attention. Thank you.
Why did I become an Mechanical Engineer instead of a professional athlete? Mark Sanchez hasn't even played a down in the NFL and he is already dating a supermodel. Grrrr
Co-ed Engineering Fraturnities? I was wondering if anyone could suggest a few COED professional Engineering fraternities . I am aware about theta tau, but their chapter has a bad rep at Binghamton University. Can anyone suggest a few?
What kind of education/licenses do I need to run a successful engineering firm? Currently I'm an undergrad as an Electrical Engineering major and have hopes of earning my Professional Engineering degree. My dad owns an electrical contracting company that I hope to take over one day and if and when I do, I would like to turn it into something along the lines of Bechtel or Arup (I have big dreams). Now I wonder is having a B.S in EE and getting a PE enough to accomplish this? I was also thinking about getting an M.S in Engineering Management - is this even relevant? Any other recommendations? Thanks for the help
Does Prof. Steven E. Jones, the oft cited BYU conspiracy theory guru, have any credibility whatsoever? Steven E. Jones is a professor at Brigham Young University. He has created the paper which has created the ground swell around the 911 conspiracy theories. His paper was peer reviewed but not by a civil engineering journal. One would think a serious professor would get his paper peer reviewed by a scientific journal which specializes in the field they are writing the paper on. But is Professor Jones qualified to create a paper which says the towers must have fallen due to explosives? He is a physics professor but what experience does Jones have in building collapse forensics? He has none. His other peer reviewed papers consist of cold fusion technology. He conducts research in nuclear fusion and solar energy. Nothing in his background would suggest he is qualified to write a civil engineering paper on the infinitely complex building collapse of the towers. Brigham Young University doesn't want anything to do with the paper. A few department chairmen at Jones' university have issued critical statements, though none of these has yet addressed any of the points which Jones made in his paper and at his presentation at BYU. Chairman of the BYU department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Miller, is on record stating in an e-mail, "I think without exception, the structural engineering professors in our department are not in agreement with the claims made by Jones in his paper, and they don't think there is accuracy and validity to these claims". The BYU physics department has also issued a statement: "The university is aware that Professor Steven Jones' hypotheses and interpretations of evidence regarding the collapse of World Trade Center buildings are being questioned by a number of scholars and practitioners, including many of BYU's own faculty members. Professor Jones' department and college administrators are not convinced that his analyses and hypotheses have been submitted to relevant scientific venues that would ensure rigorous technical peer review." The College of Engineering and Technology department has also added, "The structural engineering faculty in the Fulton College of Engineering and Technology do not support the hypotheses of Professor Jones." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_E._Jones Jones says his paper will pass peer review again. But will it pass peer review in a respected civil engineering journal? Nothing less would be taken seriously. One of Jones BYU colleagues had this to say after reading his paper... Letter to the Editor Refuting 9/11 Conspiracy Theory April 09, 2006 Dear Editor, After reading in the Daily Herald the presentations made by Professor Steven E. Jones (BYU Physics) to students at UVSC and BYU, I feel obligated to reply to his "Conspiracy Theory" relating to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center (9/11/01). I have studied the summary of the report by FEMA, The American Society of Civil Engineers and several other professional engineering organizations. These experts have given in detail the effects on the Towers by the impact of the commercial aircraft. I have also read Professor Jones' (referred to) 42 page unpublished report. In my understanding of structural design and the properties of structural steel I find Professor Jones' thesis that planted explosives (rather than fire from the planes) caused the collapse of the Towers, very unreliable. The structural design of the towers was unique in that the supporting steel structure consisted of closely spaced columns in the walls of all four sides. The resulting structure was similar to a tube. When the aircraft impacted the towers at speeds of about 500 plus mph, many steel columns were immediately severed and others rendered weak by the following fires. The fires critically damaged the floors systems. Structural steel will begin to lose strength when heated to temperatures above 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Steel bridge girders are bent to conform to the curved roadway by spot heating flanges between 800 and 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. It is easy to comprehend the loss of carrying capacity of all the structural steel due to the raging fires fed by the jet's fuel as well as aircraft and building contents. Before one (especially students) supports such a conspiracy theory, they should investigate all details of the theory. To me a practicing structural engineer of 57 continuous years (1941-1998), Professor Jones' presentations are very disturbing. D. Allan Firmage Professor Emeritus, Civil Engineering, BYU
Why DOESN'T society hold engineerig to the same standards as Medicine and Law?? "A 1998 poll indicated 61% of adults felt "not very well" or "not at all well" informed about engineering." http://www.discoverengineering.org/aboutengineers.asp I am a Civil Engineer myself doing research on the standards of professions in society. It has been proven that society holds medicine and law on a higher pedestal than engineering. I am interested in knowing why.
Which graphing calculator is do you recommend? I have a choice between the TI-89 Titanium and the Hewlett Packard 50g. Unless you can recommend a better one with calculus capablities. They are both about the same price range. Also keep in mind that i'm an electrical engineering student, so i would like to keep it for when i become a engineering professional. Also be able to do Calculus and differential equation stuff.
How can private industry help the public schools? One concrete example I have is Raytheon's Support of MathCounts, which encourages every middle school to field a high power math team. In recent years there has been a big push to get teams sponsored in inner city public schools. They've discovered a real lack in math education at the middle school level and have worked with the schools to discover and educate the formally hidden math brains. MathCounts is a National competition, winners meet with the POTUS, and is supported by the Professional Engineers. Math skills in Middle School indicate ability to get to higher math levels in high school, which determine whether you can be at the high levels to get into engineering schools which require high math skills. What about you? Do you know of any ways that the private sector can encourage the public schools? Either ideas, or concrete examples?

Question about software engineering/programming? Do professional software engineers typically specialize in one language, or are they proficient in many? Is C++ the best place to start? I am considering studying to become a developer but am not sure where to begin. Any advice is appreciated! Also, are any particular languages more valuable or in demand than others?
Hi. I am currently thinking about upgrding my xp based pc to vista ultimate. Thanks 10 Points for best answers? I have a Athlon xp 1900+ which operates at 1.7 GHz and I have 1.5GB ram and will be doing a little bit of heavy tasking and I went to the professional computer engineer and he said that yes you could run vista and do some heavy tasking on this PC but if you are doing heavy tasking the processor is fine but the ram is not sufficent enough he said he recommends 2 GB minimum. I would like your opinions what do you think is the processor good and do I need more ram. Thanks.

What are advantages/disadvantages to Professional Engineering degrees compared to a Masters or Doctorate? I was looking at graduate programs at various schools, and I noticed that there is something of a more specialized engineering degree. Some call it a Professional Engineering degree. Nonetheless, I think it scopes to be between a Masters or a Doctorate, but why do they exist and when should one pursue it rather than a Masters or Doctorate?
