Online digital photo companies like shutterfly, snapfish, etc. allows users to upload as many photos as the users want and they store all these photos online for ever.. how do these companies store all these photos? What kind of hardware, software they use? What kind of investment is required for something like that?

When I order digital photos online (through Yahoo) the pictures come back cropped? The "help" section in Yahoo photos says the reason the pictures are cropped is that the digital camera ratio is 4:3 and the printer ratio is 3:2. How do I transfer digital photos from online photo storage to CD? I am an artistic photographer and post stuff of my own online on my blog and website, etc. What are the best guidelines to follow to curb people from stealing my images. Lo-res images? A watermark? The blog is hosted by a different company.
